Private Life of Famous People

In this reflection page, I would like to discuss about privacy of people who are in public.

In the case of the Bill Clinton- Monica Lewinsky affair, I do not think that they deserved to be criticized. If every person has the right to keep their private lives secret, why do we, people, start lynch attempt against famous people? I think that it is none of our business. Before we comment on people' private lives, we should look around, and I am sure we can see many incidents just like Bill Clinton's. Additionally, I believe that people are forced to lie because of public pressure. If there had not been public pressure on Bill Clinton, I am sure that he would have chosen to tell the truth in the first place. He knew that this affair would be used against him as a political weapon by the opposing party. I think that this is another moral issue because using private affairs against successful politicians shows that opposing parties are not able to take down them in a political way. It is just not ethical. There is an expression, hitting below the belt, in Turkey that we use in these situations. I have no idea how these kinds of scandals, which I do not prefer to use, affect economy in the United States, but in my country, Turkey, the economy fluctuates on these kinds of political incidents.

I think that being a president of a country or a famous person or even a successful people in public is kind of punishment because we, the society, feel that we have the right to intervene to these people’ private lives. Let’s give them more freedom and not criticize them for what they have done in their own lives.
